Kenya: Mount Kenya – Rock Hyraxes
Mt Kenya Rock Hyrax is an endemic animal living very high on the slopes, at above 4000 m / 13000 ft. They look like marmots but are in fact closely related to elephants. When they bare their teeth – you can see two very pronounced tusks. They live in communal groups and are vegetarian, mostly mowing the grass and roots. (At the camp, one of the cooks gave them potato peel which was a massive feast). One walked up to the camera and actually “kissed” it.
