Kenya: Mount Longonot National Park
Mount Longonot is a stratovolcano with a massive caldera on top, part of the Rift Valley. Climbing to the rim involves gaining about 650m/1900ft in about 1.5 hours – in other words – it’s brutally steep. You get spectacular panoramic views from the rim both outside the volcano and into the caldera which lies way down below you. A lot of whistling acacia on the way, as well as a chance to run into a buffalo and get gored to death.
