Kenya: Solio Reserve – Reticulated Giraffes
Reticulated giraffe is native to northern Kenya as well as southern Ethiopia and Somalia. Out of the eight species of giraffes, the Reticulated Giraffe has the most beautiful patterns and colorings: shiny brown polygons with bright white narrow checkerboard lines. For their looks – these are the giraffes that you most likely to see at the zoos. At Solio Reserve, the giraffes looked incredible on the flat green planes with acacia trees and the snowcapped Mount Kenya peaks in the background. Also fun was observing a small baby trying to figure out a way to drink water – not an easy task given long legs and long neck – it took some yoga-like stretching to get down.
