Kenya: Tsavo East NP – Red Elephants
Tsavo East ispart of the same ecosystem as Tsavo West, but with a much flatter landscape and endless horizons. What this little visited park is famous for are the “red elephants”. While the elephants are the same species of African elephants as anywhere else in the East Africa, their color is bright red due to constant bathing and dusting with the ultra brilliant red volcanic soil of the park. There are over 10,000 elephants roaming Tsavo East, and herds of hundreds are quite common. Probably more then 2/3 of hour game drives were spent watching the magnificent red elephants traveling to waterholes, bathing, dusting, and continuing in their traverse of the green savanna.
