Kiritimati: Cook Islet
Time to get out on water and explore all the islets in the Kiritimati Lagoon. Cook Islet is quite unique in that it lies at the very edge of the reef and thus is quite exposed to the ocean. Cool Islet is also one of the three fully protected islands on Kiritimati and major seabird breeding location. Aside from the stunning beaches and seascapes, it’s a total overload of sounds and cacophony of various bird species making it a breeding place of choice – black and brown noddies, red-footed boobies, sooty terns, and more – they all coexist on a tiny little island here. The skies are boiling with all kinds of birds and many fly very close to you, not used to seeing anybody visit their island (fishing is prohibited anywhere near the island and a special permit from the Department of Wildlife is needed to land here).
