Kiritimati: Flora on the Lagoon Islets
Despite lying close to the equator, Kiritimati is characterized by a rather dry climate. The many islets in the lagoon have mostly shrubs and low bushes and some drying trees. The ground is covered with short grasses, succulents, and several species of wildflowers, adapted to salty soil, low amount of moisture, and insane amount of sunshine.
