Kiritimati: Tabwakea Lagoon Beach
While the inner lagoon beaches may be stunning color-wise, they are not really swimmable – the water is very shallow and bottom is quite silty. The fishing lodges are not really tailoring toward beach-lovers (most visitors to the island just spend the entire time here out in the lagoon with bonefish fishing rods, clad head to toes in the sunblocking gear, water boots, gloves and face masks). But the beaches landscapes are very pretty – sand is ultra white and fine, and the water color is surreally aquamarine. There are no filters of any kind in these pictures! Also while enjoying the beaches, you can sit and watch fregatebirds cruise around and fish just in front of view, often fighting with each other for each caught fish.
