Kodiak Island: Tufted & Horned Puffins

Many people have seen the Atlantic puffins (in fact I just saw thousands of them when touring England’s east coast just a couple weeks go). But turns out that there are actually three species of puffins in the world, and the other two – Tufted Puffin And Horned Puffin – are found along the southern shore of Alaska, Kodiak, and the Aleutian Islands. Colorful and clumsy, these “sea parrots” can be seen floating in the open seas or taking short flights above the water. Tufted puffin looks like it has white glasses and big eyebrows, while the Horned puffin has a “fortified” beak – both species look quite distinctly different from their Atlantic brethren.
