Kurdistan: Erbil Main Square

The square in front of the Erbil Citadel lies in the very heart of the city, beneath the Erbil Citadel and next to the ancient covered souq (marketplace) of Qaysari Bazaar. The square is a happening place with a clock tower, fountains, views of the citadel – hundreds of people hang out here, relax, take selfies – everybody happy, smiling, and peaceful. It’s hard to believe that you are only 100 miles or so away from Mosul, where the fight with ISIS is ongoing.
