Kurdistan: Khanzad Castle in Banaman
This small 16th century fortress lies 22km north of Erbil. It was build during the rule of Princess Khanzad and her brother Prince Suleiman Beg. The fortress sits on a hill high above the surrounding countryside with panoramic views as far as the eye can see. It’s made of stones and gypsum, and has been restored to its classic glory. Once again – zero tourists, so you can have it all to yourself and be the king of the castle.
