Kurdistan: Minaret Park & Shanadar Park
These two parks are in the heart of the city of Erbil and are connected by a cable car (not operating at the moment). Both are beautiful oases of green in an otherwise sandy and desert town. The Minaret Park has the remains of the 36 meter tall Mudhafaria Minaret that is the only remnant of a large ancient mosque built during the rule of Sultan Kokburi around 1190. Across the street is the Shanadar Park and further out is the Al-Sawaf Mosque with its own minaret.
