Kurdistan: Qaysari Bazaar in Erbil
This ancient bazaar is a typical middle eastern marketplace or souq (similar to Istanbul, Tehran, and many other cities). A large space of twisting alleyways radiate in all directions under brick domed roof. You can easily get lost here, but you can also find pretty much anything you want – from autoparts, to clothing, to leather products, to housewares, to old money with Saddam on it, to all kinds of food. In fact, the most interesting section is the one dedicated to sweets, nuts, dried fruits, honey, yogurt (and limitless combinations of the above) – the array of mouth-watering candies is just mind-boggling – and you wanna taste all of it, accompanied with a fresh pomegranate juice.
