Kuwait: Al-Mubarakiya Heritage Souq

Al-Mubarakiya Heritage Market is a spectacular heritage middle eastern marketplace – a souq – in the heart of the Kuwait city. It’s a covered space with specific areas dedicated to crafts, meat, fish, fruits and vegetables, and so on. A fantastic place to eat authentic food while admiring goat and cow heads, ox tails, stalls with mountains of dates, and enjoying all the smells of spices and grilling meats. There hundreds of shops here, plus separate dedicated areas for perfumes and a massive gold and jewelry markets. The marketplace has existed here in Kuwait for over 200 years, long before the oil discovery and it had been the main marketplace spot along the major north/south trading routes and the sea port.
