Lampedusa: Lampedusa Town

The main town of Lampedusa, also called Lampedusa or Lampedusa Town – the vast majority of the island’s 6000 or so residents live here. The port, Porto Vecchio, is a focal point, bustling with fishing boats. The town centers around Via Roma, its main street, lined with small shops, cafes, and restaurants. The town’s architecture is simple, with low-rise whitewashed buildings adapted to the hot, dry climate. Key landmarks include the Sanctuary of Madonna di Porto Salvo, a historic church from 16th century, and several interesting monuments and sculpture.
