Laos: Pakse – Big Buddha at Wat Phou Salao
I just can’t escape Mekong – sunset cruising it in Cambodia, exploring the delta in Vietnam, and now back on Mekong in Laos. In Pakse, a massive Buddha stands on the highest ground above the city on the west bank of the Mekong, looking into the sunset. If you are a devout Buddhist, you can hike 4km uphill, alternatively you can just drive up there. The views are panoramic in extreme and the entire city of Pakse is in front of you around the picturesque bend of the mighty Mekong. There is also the Wat Phou Salao temple right next to the Big Buddha with hundreds of smaller Buddha’s.
