Latvia: Riga – Old Town (Revisited)
Riga old town (aka Vecriga in Latvian) has a well-preserved medieval town center with cobblestone streets, gothic and baroque buildings, art nouveau decorations, and many churches and cathedrals (St Peters and Riga Dome being the two most famous landmarks). The town is closed to car traffic and is a virtual maze of narrow twisting streets, packed with tourists and open air bars and restaurants. The entire old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It doesn’t take long to explore the entire old town, unless you get lost, or stop to sample Riga Balzam. We got lucky with timing to see the sunset fall over the city and al the light come up (although finding a place to eat at covid times was a challenge).
