Lebanon: Kadisha Holy Valley
Kadisha Valley is a massive high elevation mountain valley carved by the Kadisha River in northern Lebanon. The entire valley is the UNESCO World Heritage site and has been the refuge of Christian communities for centuries – the entire valley is jam-packed with various churches and monasteries, often clinging to vertical steep walls. The various caves within the valley were used for habitation since before Roman times and early Christianity had many of the caves as early churches. As we drove around the valley, there were insanely spectacular panoramas of the gorge in all directions, with low clouds floating above many red-roofed churches.
