Lesotho: Semonkong – Red Bishop & Bald Ibis

The highlands of the Semonkong Lodge offered observation of a couple very interesting bird species. One was the Southern Res Bishop, a rather uninteresting and boring bird during the non-breading season – drab brownish with streaks. Except during the breading season, males become super pompous red and black – basically steaming to their female “take me I am yours!”. Another bird was the actually quite rare – the Sourhern Bald Ibis, listed as near threatened on the IUCN Red List, and restricted to basically highlands of Lesotho and Drakensberg mountains. They nested right at the lodge! Me there were a few more birds – weavers and the like.
