Lesotho: Wandflowers aka Dierama

Here’s another very unique endemic wildflower we found in Lesotho highlands – wanflowers or angel’s fishing rods, or fairybells, or grasklokkies (“grass-bells”) in Afrikaans, or dierama in Latin. When in bloom, the plant shoots a very long and wiry stem with its graceful, bell-shaped pink flowers that hang and get tossed in the winds common in the Lesotho highland grasslands. The height and fragility of the flowers appears totally out of place compared to other small down-to-earth hardy flowers of these cold high-altitude plains.
