Libya: Leptis Magna – Severan Forum

The Severan Forum is a grand complex built under Septimius Severus. The basilica, a judicial and civic hall, is noted for its colossal scale and ornate details. Medusa heads, often carved in high relief, appear on column capitals, friezes, or decorative panels in the forum. These gorgoneions, with their staring eyes and snake-like hair, were symbolic, believed to ward off evil.
