Libya: Traditional Berber Bread Cooked in Ashes & Coals

Cooked in Ashes & Coals After savoring a stupendously beautiful sunset over the endless dunes of the Sahara, we were treated to hit Berber tea and a traditional Berber bread cooked in the coals and ashes right in the fire. The bread is called tafarnout – and it was made in front of hour eyes – mixing flour, water, a bit of olive oil and salt and then places onto the hot sand and covered with hot coals and ashes. After cooking for some time, the bread is taken out of sand, dusted and cleaned and is ready to eat – full of smoky flavor and crusty texture. Absolutely delicious!
