Libya: Tripoli – Tripoli Medina (Revisited)
Tripoli’s Medina, the historic old town of Libya’s capital, is a maze of narrow streets, souks, and ancient architecture. Founded by the Phoenicians in the 7th century BC as Oea, it later thrived under Roman, Ottoman, and Islamic influences. Key landmarks include the Arch of Marcus Aurelius (previous post), the Gurgi Mosque, and the Red Castle, Al-Naqah Mosque, Karamanli Mosque, and several others, alongside caravanserais and traditional souqs selling gold, leather, copper, and antiques. You can roam the Medina for hours, day and night – people are super friendly and welcoming!
