Lichtenstein: Gutenberg Castle

There are five medieval castles in Liechtenstein, and only two are intact. Besides the famous castle in the capital of Vaduz, the second one is the Gutenberg Castle aka Burg Gutenberg. The castle sits on top of a free-standing rock about 7m above the ground in a spectacular mountain setting. The castles dates back to the 12th century when a church was turned in a mini-fortress. The castle was built into the current form in the 15th century on the orders of the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian |. Spectacular views of the castle can be had from various sides and you can even get inside (although it was closed when we arrived)
