Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, has an old town that is the largest medieval old town in Europe by area, with over 70 streets and nearly 1500 buildings. Located on a major strategic point, it saw a lot of empires come and go – Teitonic knights, Russian tzarz, Polish dukes, and the Great Dutchy of Lithuania (present day Lithuania and Belarus) left an imprint on the city. Filled with buildings and churches of architectural styles – gothic, renaissance, baroque, and neoclassical – Vilnius is a very pleasant city to explore and discover. Naturally, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site.
