North Macedonia: Skopje – Monumental Overload
It really deserves a separate post – there are more sculptures and monuments in here that anywhere else in the world – from ancient Macedonians on horseback to present day independence fighters. Sculptures are everywhere – bridges are lined up with them, rooftops are lined up with them, sculptures of women diving in the river, sculptures of women shopping, Greek (sorry – Macedonian) gods and Hellenic men and women with chiseled bodies everywhere, several dozen lions throwing up water on other monument, horseback riders here and there, some gold statues, and this goes on and on. Anywhere you look! Like mushrooms after the rain, and more monuments are still being built.
