Macquarie Island: Cruising Along Macquarie Island
Macquarie Island is shapes like a long and narrow 34km finger of land along a ridge. Cruising along, you pass massive king penguin colonies, including the one at Lucitania Bay that holds the largest king penguin colony on Macquarie with around 400,000 breeding pairs! Four species of albatrosses also call Macquarie their home and nest here – Wandering, Black-browed, Grey-headed, and Light-mantled Sooty – and I managed to see all four in flight while cruising, although only two got by camera.
