Macquarie Island: Hasselborough Bay – Macquarie Island Shag
Another endemic species that breeds only the Macquarie Island is the Macquarie Island shag aka cormorant. They are easily distinguishable from other cormorants by heir super-blue eyes. There ae only around a 1000 birds in existence and they usually breed on coastal seastacks and not on mainland. But for some unknown reason, this year, they decided to make nests on land along the rocky beach, and so you could get to withing just 10 meters of them. For food, they fly out to sea, and like other cormorants, make insane deep dives for fish.
