Madagascar: Andasibe-Mantadia NP – Exploring
Andasibe-Mantadia National Park is actually a combo of two parks: Mantadia is a large primary rain forest that is rarely visited and takes an awful mud road to get to (we got stuck 3 times). Andasibe is a smaller and more accessible park. Andasibe-Mantadia National Park is one of Madagascar’s most famous protected areas, with huge variety of unique animal species – lemurs, chameleons, geckos, insects, birds, frogs, and so on. Andasibe-Mantadia is famous for being the best place to see the indri, Madagascar’s largest lemur, as well as colorful and playful deademed sifaka lemur. There are a total of 13 lemur species here, and 110 bird species! The park is part of the larger Atsinanana Rainforests, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Different trails criss-cross the reserve and every little detail along the way.
