Madagascar: Arboretum d’Antsokay in Tulear
The entire southwest of Madagascar is an area covered by the Spiny Thicket – a half forest/half shrub land of otherworldly succulent plants that are all endemic to this place (grow nowhere else on earth). Everything has spines, needles, bottle shaped trunks and meaty succulent leafs (none of these are cacti): pachepodium, euphorbia, kalanhoe, aloe, and so on). Arboretum d’Antsokay gathers all these bizarre species in on place and displays them in a natural environment.
