Madagascar: Crazy Zebu Restaurant

This was an Alice in Wonderland experience. Belo-sur-Tsiribina is a town in the middle of nowhere, separated from the south by a river and with nothing but impenetrable forests and sand tracks to the north. It’s dusty, dirty, small, and not attractive. Yet it’s a lunch break stop for anyone taking a daylong trip from Morondava to Tsingy National Park. “Crazy Zebu” is a restaurant that would easily be a Michelin 5-star: the chef is Paris-trained, the dishes are incredible both in taste and presentation, all done in Frenh haute-cuisine style, and the place is booked for days in advance. Zebu (local type of beef) carpaccio, fresh river shrimp and fish infused with local spices, and insane desert of flambéed banana with coriander. Some think it’s the best restaurant in Madagascar.
