Madagascar: Madagascar Day Geckos
Day geckos are a fascinating group of lizards native to Madagascar, known for their vibrant colors and diurnal habits (unlike most other geckos). Their colors are ultra bright with greens and red and blues, in way, these tiny guys are as amazing as more famous chameleons. We saw five different species of day geckos in Madagascar, including the largest and most impressive Giant Day Gecko (Phelsuma grandis), Its bright green coloration and red markings on the head and body are characteristic features, plus its huge size. Others included Peacock Day Gecko (Phelsuma quadriocellata) (small gecko with bright green coloration and eye-like spots near its tail), Brown Day Gecko (Phelsuma mutabilis), Gold Dust Day Gecko (Phelsuma laticauda) (small and vibrant with gold speckles), and Blue-Tailed Day Gecko (Phelsuma cepediana) (green body with a striking blue tail and reddish markings).
