Madagascar: Palmarium Reserve – Panther & Parsons’s Chameleons
These are the two largest and the most iconic species of chameleons in Madagascar – the striking green Parson’s chameleon and the even more striking multicolored and bright Panther chameleon. Parson’s chameleon (Calumma parsonii), is the largest chameleon species found in Madagascar and is easily recognizable by its vibrant green coloration with potential orange highlights around its eyes. The other equally iconic chameleon is the Panther chameleon (Furcifer pardalis), distinguished by its striking red body with white and green stripes (the coloration changes depending on their locale and environment). Both move their eyes independently and shoot out sticky tongue for their prey – you can watch this action for hours.
