Malawi: Majete NP – Birds of Majete Reserve

Spotting the birds becomes a habit, taking good shot becomes an art. The wet season is the best for birding. Despite 40 degree heat during the day, we took an advantage of a natural poor at Majete park and spot at least 25 species of birds, coming to drink water during this overheated days. Morning and sunset drives is time when the wildlife comes to life. Chances to see more birds increase. There are more then 650 species of birds recorded in Malawi and we spotted about 90 during our exploration of the Majete Reserve. Here is the list of birds we managed to spot and mostly take pictures of: Little beeeater , Emerald-spotted wooden dove, Bateleur eagle, White-headed helmetshrike, Cape turtle dove, African grey hornbill, Cut-throat finch, White-bellied sunbird, Lilac-breasted roller, Barn swallow, European beeater, African pied wagtail, Water thickknee, Burchell’s coucal, Bown hooded kingfisher, African darter, Red-billed firefinch, Bohms beeater, Helmeted guineafoul, Crowned eagle, Long-tailed paradise whidah, Village indigobird, Striped kingfisher, Grey-headed kingfisher, Yellow-chest canary, Fiery-necked nightjar, Yellow-throated petronia, Cordon blue or waxbill, Southern black tit, Lizard bazzard, Trumpeter hornbill, Collared palm thrush, Common sandpiper, Golden-breasted bunting, Green-winged pytilia, Rock platincole, White-crowned lapwing, African pipit, Pied kingfisher, and more. Kingfisher actually deserve a post of their own.
