Malawi: Majete NP – Game Drives

Majete Wildlife Reserve in southern Malawi is a premier conservation success story – once totally depleted of its wildlife, it has been transformed into a thriving haven under the management of African Parks, jam packed with animals and the only park in Malawi with “Big Five” – lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and black rhinos. The reserve encompasses over 700 sq km of diverse habitats, including woodlands, savannas, and river systems. While doing morning and evening games drives in the park we saw loads and loads of animals – giraffes, zebras, greater kudu, elands, waterbucks,, bushbucks, impalas, baboons, monitor lizards, and more. One of the most unique and quite abundant antelopes in Majete is nyala, which has a beautiful, shaggy coat with striking white stripes and spots, a rare and endangered species. The landscapes are also fantastic at the end of dry season – red sands, trees somewhat devoid of vegetation, and panoramas of rolling hills.
