Malaysia: Penang – Fort Cornwallis
Fort Cornwallis was built by the British East India Company in 1786 to defend the town and the island, although it never saw any action. The star shaped fortress is the largest fort in Malaysia. Bastions with guns stand off the fort’s star tip points and a drawbridge and moan provide further defenses. There is a lighthouse inside the fort. Further outside the fort are some more beautiful colonial architectural attractions such as Queen Victoria Clocktower, and the waterfront esplanade leading to both Town and City Hall ornate mansions.
