Malta: Gozo Windmills
There were about a dozen old windmills scattered around the island of Gozo built by the knights in the 1700s. Many fell into disrepair and were abandoned but some were preserved and can be seen today. The most famous is Ta’ Kola Windmill in ix-Xaghra, built in 1725 and fully restored and offering a chance to explore the interior and climb to the top floor to see the milling stones and the rest of the milling mechanism. Another beautiful windmill is Tat-Tmien Kantunieri Windmill in Xewkija, built in 1710.
