Malta: Maltese Food Recap
Surprisingly, the number one item in Maltese cuisine is locally bred….. rabbit! Grilled rabbit is in fact the national dish of Malta and it all comes from the days of Knights of St John who prohibited hunting and locals started breeding rabbits to circumvent the ban and get the wild taste. Now there last rabbit dishes every that – rabbit stews, grilled rabbit, rabbit in pasta. Also lots of great seafood like freshly grilled fish, octopus, local mussels. Malta also makes good wines from local grape varieties and Maltese goat cheese is famous as well.
