Malta: Saint Agatha’s Red Tower
Saint Agatha’s Tower, aka Torre Sant’ Agata is one of the largest turreted bastion towers built in Malta by the Knights of St John in the early 16th century to fortify against Ottoman incursions. The tower was built in a commanding position on top of Marga Ridge with expansive clear views of western Malta and even the neighboring island of Gozo. The square tower has four corner turrets, al equipped with guns and manned by 30 people at all times. The best thing – we had the entire tower to ourselves – seems like most tourist come to Malta to just lay on mediocre beaches or play COVID-roulette on the crowded bars and restaurants.
