Margarita Island: Faro de Punta Ballena

Faro de Punta Ballena aka Whale Point Lighthouse is an absolute must see – a beautiful lighthouse on the easternmost point of the bay with stunning views up and down the coastline. To the right is the Pampanar Bay with its beautiful azure waters, and to the left is Playa La Caranta and pink salt flats of the Salinas de Pampatar. The lighthouse is relatively new construction from 2007 but built in a classic lighthouse structure and a spiral staircase inside leading to the observation platform high above. The cliffs below the lighthouse is a perfect spot for birdwatching as well – you can see many Magnificent Frigatebirds, Brown Boobies, and Brown Pelicans soaring in the air and diving for fish.
