Margarita Island: La Galera Fortress

Fortin de la Galera aka La Galeta Fortress is located on the west side of the island it was originally built to protect the island against the Caribbean pirate attacks. It is one of the oldest fortifications on the island of Isla Margarita and has been perfectly preserved. It sits on a high ground near the small town of Juangriego and overlooks the Caribbean Sea, with incredible panoramic views in all directions of azure Caribbean water and mountainous coastal landscapes. There are many historic cannons and ramparts.
