This is the largest of several archaeological sites in Nuku Hiva, unearthed and meticulously restored to display what life was like over a thousand years ago on Marquesas Islands long before the arrival of Europeans. A giant royal grounds with many large paepae (ceremonial stone platforms), ancient tiki statues carved out of stone, and petroglyphs of animals and humans tell the story of ancient civilization.
