Martinique: Jardin de Balata
Jardin de Balata (botanical gardens) are easily some of the most beautiful gardens I have ever seen. For starters – insane setting beneath huge green mountains of Piton du Carbet on near vertical slopes. Add a stunning collection of over 3,000 tropical plants, all meticulously maintained and organized into groups of similar species – palms, orchids, bromeliads, bamboos, gingers, and so on. But there’s more – an incredible treetop ladder pathway high up in the canopy with panoramic views. There are also several ponds with lilies, stairs, and a massive bamboo forest. The bromeliad collection is probably the most incredible part of the gardens. Just stunning all around!
