Martinique: Les Trois Iles

Les Trois Iles is a small town on the western shore of Martinique. The historic core features old church – Église Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption – and many old buildings. Les Trois-Îlets is known for its historical significance, particularly as the birthplace of Josephine de Beauharnais, the first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte (her family owned a large sugar plantation nearby). The town also has nice beaches beaches, including Anse Mitan and Anse à l’Ane. The actual name for the town comes for the three small offshore islands – Ilet Ramiers, Ilet aux Loups, and Ilet Chancel.
