Martinique: Sainte-Anne
Sainte-Anne is located on the southern shore of Martinique and its famous for the nearby Les Salines Beach, which is often considered best in the island. The town is quite touristy and has a lot of restaurants and bars and cafe right at the beach. One street back from the water are ultra-colorful Creole houses and a couple markets. There is also a famous church here – Église Sainte-Anne- that dates back to the 18th century, a blend classic colonial architecture with French and Caribbean influences. Above the Église Sainte-Anne, there’s a Calvary monument, where you climb strenuously through the switchbacks of the Stations of the Cross to a rather unremarkable structure on top of the hill. But the views toward the sea are spectacular.
