Mauritania: Adrar Plateau
Mauritania is a mostly flat country with the Saharan sands sweeping the vast part of it. Except for the part in the middle, west of town of Atar, where the Adrar Plateau rises 500m above the surrounding lands. It’s a landscape of arid mountains, beautiful gorges and ravines, oases, and stony deserts and dunes. The population is scarce here, except for a few remote and isolated settlements, that have a very long history.
