Mauritania: Mauritania Food Recap

The food options outside the capital city are not very exciting – it’s all limited to what locals call “tacos” (which are actually more like wraps or burritos) and pizza. All of this made with camel meat – that’s right – all camel! Both are clearly adaptation of junk food to local tastes, but quite interesting as camel has a special and rather unique flavor. And every meal followed by a three-cup berber tea ceremony. The tea is poured from high and additional foam is added to each cup as is the local tradition. The reason – foam acts as a shield for sand in the desert and collects the find sand particles while you enjoy the very strong black tea liquid.
