Mauritius: Climbing Le Morne Brabant
Le Morne Brabant is a massive granite monolith jutting out into an incredible coral lagoon. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site for rare flora and fauna as well as geological significance. The summit rises to 556 meters (over 1800 feet) right from the sea level at nearly vertical pace. It’s possible to climb to almost the top – it’s a brutal hike/climb with sections of ropes, scrambling up the vertical granite rocks, and maneuvering over narrow ledges. But the view from the top is truly INSANE – with Mauritius mountains, lagoons, reef, and islands. It is absolutely the best adventure so far in the Indian Ocean section of my travels…
