Mauritius: Dolphin Watching off West Coast

Dolphin watching off Mauritius’ west coast is a very popular activity. In fact, it’s billed as swimming with dolphins, although it’s more of “jumping into water at the sight of dolphins with small likelihood of seeing them swim by”. There are two types of dolphins residing in the lagoon – bottlenose and spinner. They swim in small pods and are quite fast, so swimming with dolphins is quite a challenge and a bit of a zoo. A dozen or so boats chasing the pod around and trying to position in front, dropping their snorkelers for a brief few minutes as the dolphins swim by, reloading the passengers back on board and then repeating the insanity over again.
