Mayotte: Whale watching safari
Hundreds of humpback whales come up from the Antarctica to the protected waters of the Mayotte lagoon to give birth and rear their young. Pretty much all the whale sightings here were of a mother and a calf. They don’t dive much since the little one hasn’t learned that yet so you don’t get flukes. But you get plenty of mother/baby fins close together. Baby whales swim very close to the mothers and basically replicate all the parents’ moves. And of course a lot of spouting!
