Mercat des Claustre the beautiful historic covered food market housed in the 18th-century cloister of the old Carmelite convent, right next to the Iglesia del Carmen church in the heart of the city. Laid pit all around the courtyard, it’s packed with local specialties – famous Mahón cheese and sobrasada sausages, cut of high-end Menorca meats, Menorcan famous gin and pastries, Fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers, and much more. The Mahon cheese is really what steal the show here – it’s one of Spain’s most iconic cheeses, holding Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status since 1985. The history of cheese making on Menorca dates to 2000 BC, and there are several varieties of Mahon cheeses today, depending on age – from soft and creamy to hard and spicy, all insanely delicious!
